“Book an hour with me” describes time, not value. A consultation becomes easier to sell when the right client can recognise the problem, understand the scope and picture what they will leave with.
Define one consultation outcome
Choose a focused situation you can help with repeatedly: reviewing a portfolio, planning a launch, diagnosing an operations problem or creating a first-step strategy. State who it is for and when another service would be more suitable.
Set boundaries around the session
Describe the duration, format, preparation, topics covered and deliverables. Clarify whether written notes, a recording or follow-up questions are included. Boundaries protect both your capacity and the client’s expectations.
Price the complete work
Include preparation, the live session, administration and agreed follow-up—not only minutes on the call. Consider the value of the decision or progress, your expertise and the number of sessions you can deliver well.
Collect useful context before payment
A lead-plus-payment journey can ask for the client’s goal, current situation and most important question. Keep it short enough to complete. Do not ask for sensitive business or personal information unless it is necessary and you have an appropriate process for protecting it.
Make the next step unmistakable
After payment, tell the client how scheduling works, where the meeting happens and what to prepare. If appointments are managed separately, make the sequence explicit so a paid client is never left wondering whether a booking is confirmed.
Use a consistent session structure
Open by confirming the desired outcome, spend most of the session on diagnosis and decisions, then close with priorities and ownership. Send any promised follow-up within the stated timeframe.
Productise carefully: consistency should improve the client experience, not force every client into the same advice. Standardise the journey while keeping the diagnosis thoughtful.
Once the offer works, create separate links for genuinely different consultation outcomes. This keeps each promise specific and makes referrals easier.
